12 lb CS Bormann Sideloader, Bentonville, SOLD, N.C.
This Iron Sideloader is the only one I know of dug in Bentonville. It very well might of had a standard borman fuze in it instead of the replacement fuze. Most of these shells are found at Petersburg , Amelia Court House, and Sailor's Creek, ( Late War)--- I dug this shell in 1975 in an area where 3 other shells were found, all side loaders, but with standard brass fuze's. At the time i thought it was unique. It's a good probability that it was fired from Starr's Battery near the Jr Reserve line.
This is a hard to find shell, on the market it would bring 1400.00+ if it had the fuze .

Rarity: 10
According to Pete's book, only six have been noted. Shell is pitted and sabot looks as if it has been beaten down. Price reflects condition, still a rarity of ten.

Dug 4, 2004 at Malvern Hill. This is unusual: it has a zinc fuse and is a drop. Sabot has no flame grooves. I would consider this an early dyer. Iron is somewhat warn

Took wood fuse. Shell is in extremely nice condition with good iron. The only thing wrong with it is the chip in the sabot, but will stand alone. Very nice piece!
